Allow me to introduce you to the world famous DJ Z.everybody take notice of what a DJ is and has become.I caught up with Z for a quick Q&A and here's what went down.YOUR WELCOME YOUR ALL WELCOME
1.ARE YOU SIGNED TO ANY LABEL OR GROUP AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DJING?
DJ Booth, LLC. / DJ'ed for 7 years, but not currently spinning/mixing
2.WHO ARE YOUR TOP 5 DJ'S AND WHY?
Top 5 DJs: Revolution, Funk Flex, Mick Boogie, Clinton Sparks, Green Lantern. Reasons include versatility, range, experience, originality.
3.HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT TODAYS HIP HOP,AND WHEN I SAY THAT I MEAN IT ALL THE HOT SHIT THE WACK SHIT....HIP HOP AS A WHOLE ?
Hip-Hop today is both disappointing and groundbreaking. It isn't what it used to be (early or late 90's), but sort of proves that this artform and culture can innovate, recreate, and move forward (as opposed to staying grounded in its roots). I am hopeful that a fresh, new crop of artists can help the genre prosper in the years to come.
4.HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT MIXTAPES GAME TODAY ?
Mixtapes are dead. The Net is one big mixtape. It's a shame, but when artists can leak material much faster via websites and personal blogs, it makes the process of collecting songs, mixing it down, pressing it up, and distributing unneccessary.
5.WHATS THE ONE THING YOU THINK A DJ SHOULD ALWAYS REMEMBER?
DJs should always remember that without them these artists couldn't eat. The artist needs the DJ, not the other way around.
6.HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN DJ DRAMA GOT INTO HIS SITUATION WITH THE RIAA?
When Drama dealt with his RIAA drama I felt for him. I had dropped several mixtapes, which included material from artists signed to major labels, and I could never picture myself in that situation. He handled it great, though, and that situation has helped everyone know how to approach the future of their craft.
7.DO YOU THINK,THE INTERNET IS DESTROYING HIP HOP,LIKE MANY PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT?
The Net is not destroying hip-hop. In fact, without the World Wide Web, hip-hop would be a dead artform. Artists who succeed in today's game can thank web for 90% of their success. This will only increase in the years to come.
8.HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT WHERE YOUR AT IN YOUR CAREER THUS FAR AND WHERE DO YOU ULTIMATELY WANT TO TAKE IT?
I decided (two years ago) that turning my experience as a DJ and radio jock into an online music magazine was a far more satisfying, fruitful and worthwhile move. Any opportunities that I have been afforded recently are due to my work in the online media field (all in part because I established contacts and networked while DJing). It all worked hand-in-hand.
9.FAV. BIGGIE JOINT AND WHY?
Favorite Biggie Joint - "Notorious Thugs". I grew up a HUGE BTNH fan and when Biggie and BTNH laid down a track together, it instantly became 'my joint."
10.FAV. TUPAC JOINT AND WHY?
Favorite 2pac Joint - "Brenda's Got A Baby". Artists these days just rap; but Pac told us a story. He was a poet This is the song that has you visually accounting for what happens from verse to verse, before ever seeing the video. Amazing.
11.NIA LONG OR LISA RAYE?
Nia Long. Not even close.
12.BALD , BUSH ,OR NEATLY TRIMMED?
Bald... [not even close, again]
13.TURNTABLES OR CDJ'S?
Turntables. I have 10+ crates of vinyl that are just sitting doing nothing. Takers? haha
14. TOP 5 MC(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)
2pac, Jay-Z, Eminem, Ice Cube, Common
15. DO YOU THINK A PROMOTION SITE LIKE THIS WILL BE HELPFUL FOR ARTIST AND DJ'S,AND FANS WHO WANT TO ESCAPE FROM THE SO CALLED HIP HOP,THAT THEY PLAY ALL DAY ON T.V?
Yes - that is the sole purpose of a site like ours, DJBooth.net!
16.WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOU IN THE FUTURE?
DJBooth.net has expanded from just featuring artists to participating in sponsorships, an exclusive weekly freestyle series, as well as many other ventures that focus on artist relations.
17.LASTLY,WHERE CAN A ARTIST CONTACT YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY TO ALL YOUR SUPPORTERS AND NEW FANS OUT THERE.AND ANY SHOUT OUTS,LET THEM KNOW WHERE THEY CAN FIND YOU(BLOG ,WEBSITE,SIRIUS,XM WHATEVER)
Any artist who wants to reach out can do so by e-mailing me at djz@djbooth.net. If you don't introduce yourself or type your e-mail with class, though, its going in the trash - instantly. Shouts out to DJ Dame Hustle for asking me these questions (I am usually the one asking others questions), Dave Macli (my business partner at DJBooth.net), Nathan Slavik (our Managing Editor at DJBooth), my DJBooth staff and interns, all the artists we work with, their labels and management, and, of course, my family.
